Flower pot arrangements are one of the most lively parts of landscaping—and, let's be honest, fun to make! They can make or break the look of a front or back yard!
These arrangements have a wide assortment of looks to do. Some pots will be upright, sideways, ceramic, terracotta, painted, plain, tall, bowl-shaped, geometric slender, and more. Choose one that matches the theme of your backyard, or one that spices things up!
Three pots of different sizes but similar shapes will accent each other well in a corner or focal area of the backyard.
For a circular standard pot, one of the most simple yet best ways to design a pot is get three different types of plants: your thriller, spiller, and filler.
Your thriller is going to be the tallest plant, usually the most slender. Some examples of this, depending on how you use them, would be dracena spike grass, snapdragons, celosia, toadflax, larkspur, columbine, or caladium.
Your spiller is my favorite. It's going to be a plant that can spill over the side, adding some dimension to the arrangement. Some examples of this would be trailing vinca, sweet potato vine, purslane, moss rose, hearts-and-flowers, or million bells.
Your filler has the most plants to chose from. This might easily be the most colorful plant of the three, and is what you want to boldly fill in a lot of the pot. This could be pentas, impatiens, petunias, violas, annual phlox, nasturtium, fern-leaf cosmos, strawflower, zinnias, or marigolds.
AND!!! You can't forget: know which plants are sun plants and which are shade plants. Put plants that love the same amount of sun equally in the same pot.
The best part about the annuals is you can easily change them out in pots and add or exchange something on a budget! Don't be afraid to buy plants you normally wouldn't and experiment away!
